We are prioritizing infrastructure and economic development to maintain Austin’s competitive edge. Significant projects include the $1.27 billion redevelopment of our convention center, which will begin in 2025 and reopen in 2029. Once completed, it will generate an estimated $750 million in annual economic impact, significantly up from the current $468 million. This expansion will also position Austin’s convention center among the top 35 largest in the country, enabling us to attract larger events and retain local businesses like Dell that have outgrown the existing space.

The price of electric equipment is decreasing, and they are cheaper to operate, but infrastructure at airports is the main hurdle. For example, in Zurich, even though it’s highly sophisticated, there's a limit to the amount of electric equipment due to the availability of charging stations. In the UK, the issue is the infrastructure investment needed. For our cargo business, charging 40 forklifts overnight requires significant space and infrastructure, which is currently lacking.

Our first priority is to get back to 100% capacity. After COVID, Asia was slow to start, while the North Atlantic market boomed. We added capacity to regions like Los Angeles, San Francisco, and Las Vegas. Now, Japan is doing better, and China is coming back, but we need to balance flights to Asia from Amsterdam. Due to geopolitical tensions, we can't overfly Russia, making flights two to three hours longer and more costly. Destinations in Asia also remain important for us

Our biggest piece of ageing infrastructure at Bush Airport is Terminal A- one of two original terminals that opened in June 1969. Terminal A houses all domestic carriers, with the exception of United Airlines. Renovating 55-year-old infrastructure, may be too problematic, so Houston Airports is considering building a whole new terminal outside of the terminal complex.
