Battery storage and thermal power plants are complementary solutions. Battery storage handles short-term fluctuations, while thermal plants address longer swings, including seasonal variations. Today, thermal plants often use LNG, but in the future, they will transition to green fuels. Battery storage is growing rapidly and is essential for balancing grids, but it will not be the sole solution.

We use post-consumer recycled cardboard for our case boxes, cartons, and tea tags, and organic cotton for our tea strings. Our tea bags are made from abaca, a plant in the banana family, which is our largest agricultural input. Abaca is a natural product, with 85% sourced from the Philippines, where we are involved in various community support projects.

The Road to Zero plan is built on four pillars: climate change, resources, chemical substances, and biodiversity. Each of these areas has a comprehensive roadmap to guide our efforts. Given the urgency of climate change, we’ve accelerated our target to achieve a zero environmental footprint in the climate change area by ten years from fiscal year 2050 to 2040.

The solar remote, for instance, has significantly reduced the environmental impact of our remote controls. By utilizing solar cells and harvesting RF energy, we have eliminated the need for disposable batteries. By open-sourcing this technology, we hope to extend its benefits to the entire electronics industry, further amplifying its positive impact.

The appetite for energy is increasing rapidly, driven by technological advancements and industrial needs, however the capacity to produce clean energy through wind, solar, or hydrogen is not keeping pace.

Being close to other data centers minimizes latency for compute processing between different servers, which is crucial for efficiency. I believe the trend will continue to see clusters of data centers rather than dispersed ones, at least in the near term. This clustering allows for optimized power and resource usage, creating environments that are favorable for both co-locators and hyperscalers. The proximity also supports better integration and efficiency in data processing.
